Laing is a very distinct and acquired tasting dish that you can’t really explain unless you try it out. It’s a salty, savory, slightly sweet meal that is best paired with rice due to its high salt content. Dried taro leaves are the main component of this dish. It is sautéed with proteins such as meat or seafood, and aromatics like garlic, shallots, ginger, lemongrass, etc. Finally, it is simmered in coconut milk and shrimp paste is finally added for that salty taste. Laing can take some getting used to especially if your guests don’t have a wide taste palette, but this dish is incredible as an appetizer or a main course with rice/salads. Impress your guests at your next party with something delicious they’ll remember!
